As part of it's commitment to promote food security, good nutrition, fight hunger and provide good medical care to vulnerable people, including children and nursing Mothers, The Heartmenders Foundation, on July 30th, 2022 organized an outreach to vulnerable Mothers, in the Makoko area of Lagos State, where the Foundation used the Ayetoro Community Health Center as it's  venue for the Outreach.

Makoko is an informal settlement across the Third Mainland Bridge located on the coast of Mainland Lagos. A third of the community is built on stilts along the lagoon and the rest is on the land. The waterfront part of the community is largely harboured by the Egun people who migrated from Badagry and Republic of Benin and whose main occupation is fishing (Wikipedia). It is known to be the biggest Slum in Lagos State.

The Outreach had over a hundred Nursing Mothers in attendance, providing them with items but not limited to clothes, food items, shoes, and also conducting free health care tests such on BMI, Blood pressure, Blood sugar and as well as offered seminars and health talks on breastfeeding, personal hygiene and malaria in children.

The outreach was graced with a lot of volunteers from different places and health specialists from different partnering organizations such as FoodClique Support Foundation; a major partner who helped in providing Food items, Executive Helping Initiative, Abimslove4allinitiative, Wuraola Foundation, among many others, who gave health talks and advices to the Nursing Mothers.

Still on maintaining good health practices and child immunization, The Health Education Officer, Lagos Mainland L.G.A/Yaba L.C.D.A., Mrs. Ogunyemi Taiwo gave her own piece. Also, the Secretary General of the Ayetoro community, Mr. Kester Kudehinbu, while addressing the Nursing Mothers laid more emphasis on the mothers taking good care of their body as it affects the hygiene of their babies.

The outreach was indeed a fun filled one, as it was characterized with side attractions such as dance competition for mothers and children, and winners were rewarded accordingly.

The founder of the Foundation, Miss Mary Fidelis reiterated her support for the Mothers and pledged to do more to ensure sustainable health care for the mothers. She thanked the Nursing Mothers for coming and for making the event a reality.

The arena was filled with so much joy and excitement as the beneficiaries expressed their innermost gratitude to the Foundation for reaching out to them. The Foundation, in the same vein, wishes to express it's sincere gratitude and appreciation to all it's partners who has played a huge role in making the OUTREACH TO VULNERABLE MOTHERS a huge success.
